Client: UMC-U, Concern Care Administration and Information Service Contact: Marco Spruit Background- The UMCU collects lots of data about patients, procedures, costs, etc. but also things like the average waiting time, occupancy, numbers of deaths, etc. This is often done in the electronic patient record (supplier ChipSoft), but also other databases store information . Currently, this information is merely used as reference information. There is relatively little data mining, decision support and optimization done.
- The UMCU has over 1,000 beds, there are an average of 180,000 per year outpatient operations done. There are so many details.
- There are three aspects in which care is settled and there is also always looking for ways how this can be improved.
- Finance
- Quality
- Ensure Logistics (who, what, where, when)
Research focus- Can, through pattern recognition, meaningful data mining take place based on data from the EPD, and large determinants be recognized and named?
- Can information from the database potentially result in cost reduction, quality or logistics optimization?
- Possible outcomes could include:
- Optimization Possibilities for use of beds
- Unforeseen correlations between, for example timing of intake and quality of care
- Identify structural misdiagnoses
- ....
- Or even totally unexpected ways that only become clear after extensive analysis.
