To learn how to solve simple digital design problems in practice.
To learn how to use modern software tools to design digital circuits.
Pen-and-paper practical assignments (simple digital circuit designs).
Design and simulation of digital circuits using software tools.
For the Tutorials and the Design Project, you will use the Xilinx ISE Design Suite tool for digital circuit design and simulation. There are three OPTIONS to access the Xilinx ISE tool:
OPTION
1:
Use the PCs in the LIACS computer labs (rooms DM.0.09-PC,
DM.0.13-PC, DM.0.17-PC, DM.0.21-PC in the Gorlaeus
building) and login on Linux with your university ULCN account
(credentials).
A
quick start guide on how to use the tool can be found here.
OPTION
2:
Use your own PC/Laptop and connect remotely to LIACS servers in
order to start the
Xilinx ISE tool remotely. Instructions on how to connect and start
the
tool can be found here.
A
quick start guide on how to use the tool can be found here
(please skip Section I in the quick start guide!).
OPTION
3: Use
your own PC/Laptop and install locally the Xilinx ISE tool. Click
here to download the Xilinx ISE Design Suite tool
for digital circuit design and simulation. There is no direct link
to download the required tool (ISE Design Suite 14.7), as it could
only be downloaded after creating an account. So, do the following
steps: 1) choose version 14.7 Full Product Installation from the
webpage, 2) create an account, 3) download and install the tool, and
4) during the installation install only the product: ISE WebPACK
(Free).
A
quick start guide on how to use the tool can be found here
(please skip Section I in the quick start guide!).
If you have questions about the Xilinx ISE tool and/or need help, please ask the lecturer and assistants during the Hands-on Tutorials!
